On October 22, 2025, the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS RA) hosted an information event dedicated to the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme, organized by the Scientific and Innovation Partnership Assistance Center (SIPAC) in cooperation with the European Commission, the NAS RA, and the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia.

The event brought together representatives of state institutions, scientific organizations, universities, and the private sector, creating an effective platform for discussing the programme’s opportunities, achievements, and prospects for future cooperation.

In his opening remarks, SIPAC Chairman, Mr. Tigran Arzumanyan welcomed the participants, emphasizing the importance of the Horizon Europe programme for the development of Armenia’s science and innovation ecosystem. He noted that participation in the programme enables Armenian scientific organizations and researchers to become full members of the European Research Area, strengthen international cooperation, and enhance the visibility of Armenian science.

Welcome speeches were delivered by Mr.Sargis Hayotsyan, Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia (MoESCS), H.E. Vassilis Maragos, Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia,  Ms.Silvia Bojinova, Team Leader for interinstitutional and multilateral relations at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation and Mr.Aram Papoyan, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

In his address, Mr. Sargis Hayotsyan highlighted that Horizon Europe provides an exceptional opportunity, especially for young scientists, to conduct world-class research aligned with the EU’s strategic priorities.

H.E. Ambassador Vassilis Maragos underlined the need to fully utilize Armenia’s scientific potential, noting that the programme is not only a tool for funding science and innovation but also a platform for building connections between people and institutions.

Ms. Silvia Bojinova, described Armenia’s participation in Horizon Europe as a “success story,” highlighting the country’s achievements and more than eight million euros in funding received during the previous period. She added that Armenian researchers today are full members of the wider European research family.

Mr. Aram Papoyan, Vice President of the NAS RA, emphasized the importance of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthening the transition from science to innovation—principles that form the very foundation of Horizon Europe.

During the event, successful projects involving Armenian participation were presented, along with new opportunities within the Innovative Europe pillar and upcoming calls.

The event marked another important step toward strengthening Armenia’s presence in the European Research Area and expanding international scientific cooperation.
